Here the finished model, ready for flight, at the WoodCrafters 2005 event in Muncie, In.

It was supposed to have it's maiden flight there, but the winds were pretty high during the whole event, so that I did not dare to fly it.

Building pictures

These 2 pictures were taken at the JR aerotow event in Monticello, IL, a week after the WoodCrafters event. This time, winds were calm and I got

to maiden the Grunau Baby.

In spite of my nervousness, due to the fact that this is biggest and heaviest model I have built & flown so far, and the amount of work invested in the

process, the maiden flight was anti-climactic...

John Dinitz of the JR Team had the honors, with his powerful tug, which managed to drag the Baby off the grass, without a launch dolly, in less than 50 ft...

Once in the air, the Grunau followed the tug without any problems, and displayed no bad habits at all.

I released at approx. 1000ft altitude, and managed an approx, 15 minute flight from there.

Other than adjusting the elevator compensation for deployed spoilers, no adjustments were necessary.
